Happy New Year, everyone! Welcome to my new blog! I’ve decided to start a blog to keep my friends and relatives updated on my family (well, mostly Ryan). Plus, my cousin Elisa started a blog for her son Tanner, and I think it’s the best thing since sliced bread! I’m very excited to begin my new hobby. (And yes, blogging is considered a hobby in my book). But frankly, I feel the need to put my creativity to good use and do something “different”. I can only take so much cleaning, folding itty bitty midget clothes (Ryan’s clothes) and making dinner. (Steve would say I don’t do any of that…but it sounds good, right?)
New Year’s started off with a bang! We went to our friends Julie and Justin’s house for a New Year’s celebration with friends and family. They have a son named Dylan who is just 3 months younger than Ryan. They played together and partied like rock stars. Dylan stayed up till 9 something and Ryan hung in until midnight! What a trooper! He slept in until 10 am the next day, which was nice for Steve and I!
January seems like it flew by. It seems as I get older, time goes by faster. Ryan turned 17 months old (young) on January 16. He is in the Toddler room at his preschool/daycare and will most likely move up to the next room in February by his 18 month birthday. His teacher, Miss Katherine, tells us he’s very smart, and more “advanced” than the kids in his class. He knows where his ears, nose, mouth, eyes, head, hair, feet and hands are and can point to them if you ask him to. He has learned a couple new words this month. “Elmo” is a new one, which kind of caught us off guard. We thought he was saying, “elbow” because we did not have an Elmo toy in the house. Then, Miss Katherine told us about the Elmo doll that she gives to comfort a certain little girl when she gets upset, and we figured that’s where he learned the word “Elmo”. We have been recording Seasame Street for him to watch. Steve, Ryan and I actually sit and watched the whole episode on Monday night and kind of liked it. Aside from making us feel older than we are, we enjoyed it. Ryan also learned the word, “oatmeal”, which sounds more like, “O-meal”, and loves to eat oatmeal as a snack in the evening. He’s also learned, “ouwie”, “oh-noooooo”, and “wow”. He is learning Spanish too. He says, “agua” all the time. And knows the word, “besito” and will give a kiss upon request of a “besito”, but can’t say it yet. It’s amazing how fast he learns and how much be absorbs. We are tickled pink when he does something new~! Oh, by the way, he’s starting to use his spoon to feed himself!
On January 18, we got our photos taken as a family (professional photos). We bid on a photo session at a Fundraiser back in August and won! Becka at Becka Lynn Photography is wonderful and does AWESOME work! I’ve posted some photos for your viewing pleasure. He did great at the photo shoot, mostly because Becka brought her three young girls to keep Ryan occupied and smiling. The photos were taken at Jack London Park in Glen Ellen. Maybe Ryan can pay for college tuition if he does some modeling? J
Ryan got his first ear infection a couple weeks ago, since his ear tubes in August 08. He got a cold, and had some drainage, but no pain. (Thank goodness) He’s doing just fine now and is over his ear infection and cold.
Ryan spent some time hanging out with Cousin Nicolas at Grandpa’s house a couple weekends ago. They went to the park together and slid down the slides. They had fun! Ryan has got the slide thing down, and even goes down on his tummy for a little variety!
Well, my gub’ment job is calling, so better go. (Your tax dollars hard at work!) I will post more when I get new pictures or when Ryan does new, exciting things. I plan on posting monthly so that I can keep everyone updated with the latest on Ryan!
